Superintendent's Message

Dear Parents:

It is that time again where August came quickly and the days are just flying by!  Soon we will open the doors and our halls will be flooded with the smiling faces of our awesome students!  I hope you all have enjoyed the summer days with family and friends.  Starting my sixth year at North Cape School, I truly feel we have the best school on the planet.  Our culture is positive and our commitment is unwavering to help our students learn, grow and achieve to their highest potential.  I am so appreciative to be a part of the North Cape School community.  Our students, teachers, parents and community members are simply the best!  Thank you for your support and effort as we work together to help our students be successful.  I look forward to another great year!  Here is a little update as we move into the new school year:

  • I am very happy to announce our new hires for the 2017-18 school year!  We hired:

    • Dannielle Parker, Kindergarten Teacher.  Dannielle will be starting her 3rd year in teaching, specifically certified to teach students in early childhood!

    • Chelsea Kuhlow, Music/Band Teacher.  Chelsea has experience in band and music at the elementary and middle school levels.  She is also the band and music teacher at Washington Caldwell.

    • Tara Borger, Art Teacher, who is replacing Jake Wallden.  Mr. Wallden accepted a full-time position in another school district.  We appreciate Mr. Wallden’s time here at North Cape and wish him the best in his new endeavors.  Tara has a degree in Fine Arts (Illustration) as well as certification in Art Education.

    • Leah Mekemson, Part-time Instructional Assistant.  Leah has four children attending North Cape and will be a natural fit for our school.

    • Tina Kaiser, Long-term Substitute for Mrs. Kaye.  Congratulations to Mrs. Kaye!  Silas Robert Kaye was born on July 6, 2017.  Tina is a certified, highly qualified teacher with years of experience teaching.

  • This will be our second year implementing Reader’s/Writer’s Workshop with a particular emphasis on specific instructional strategies in Writer’s Workshop.  Mr. Meinhardt, our Reading Specialist, has continued his training this summer at the Teachers College Columbia University.  Our first year was extremely successful with our students and we look forward to building on our students’ success.

  • Summer school was highly successful with over 30 students attending consistently.  They engaged in many learning activities including Reading Workshop, different STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) projects every week (ie. catapults, spaghetti towers), and many other Math and Technology integrated exercises.  The kids even helped restore the buddy bench!  Thank you to our wonderful teachers, Mrs. Lentz and Ms. Griffiths!

  • Thursday, August 31, 2017 is our “Meet and Greet” night from 5:30-7:00 p.m. for parents and students.  Parents received a notice at registration time.  5:30 – 6:30 is for students and parents to meet your teachers.  I will be introducing all staff and presenting some important information at 6:30 p.m. in the Gym.

  • Our inservice schedule is set for teachers and all staff starting on August 28th, 29th, 30th, and 31st. Students will start school on Tuesday, September 5, K-8 and Wednesday, September 6 for 4K!

Have a great end to the summer!  I look forward to seeing everyone on August 31th!

Mr. Lehnen
